Schiphol to Amsterdam: Route and Drive Time
Central Amsterdam is 22 km from Schiphol. The car follows the A4 towards the city and joins the A10, the ring road around Amsterdam, before it turns off towards your district. The drive takes 20–45 minutes, and the width of that range comes from the hour you land more than from the distance.
Zuidas and the RAI lie right beside the southern part of the A10, so they are the first addresses the car reaches. The historic centre, the Canal Ring and the IJ waterfront behind Centraal are further in, through city streets, and sit at the longer end of the range. On weekdays the rush hours slow the southern ring, and the Zuidasdok project shuts parts of the southern ring and the A4 on some weekends.
Journey times vary with traffic and weather. Add the hotel name and the street to your flight number, so the exit from the ring is chosen for your district.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at Schiphol
Long-haul or short hop, every flight into Schiphol ends in the same terminal building; what differs is the arrivals hall. There are four, numbered 1 to 4, and the one you come out into follows from your flight. For a delegate heading straight to a session at the RAI or a meeting in Zuidas, the hall is the detail that saves time, so it is taken from the flight number when you book.
For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pickup rules. If the plane is held on the runway or lands ahead of schedule, the pickup is simply moved to the new time.
The airport is spending more on renewal in 2026 than ever before. The largest project, Pier A, adds gates to the existing terminal and should take its first passengers in April 2027. Until then, hoardings and moved gates may lengthen the walk from the aircraft to the halls.

Arriving at Your Hotel in Amsterdam
Within the A10 ring, nearly the whole city is a milieuzone, a low-emission zone. For cars it concerns only diesels, which must meet emissions class 5 or above, and diesel coaches need class 6; cars running on petrol, LPG or electricity can enter as normal. Cameras check number plates day and night. A stricter zero-emission zone inside the S100 centre ring covers vans and lorries, not passenger cars.
The address therefore shapes the arrival more than the zone does. Hotels on the canals stand on narrow quays, where the car stops briefly at the door or at the nearest corner. For a cruise, Passenger Terminal Amsterdam is on the IJ, about a quarter of an hour on foot east of Centraal; add the ship's name to the booking.
Give the exact address when you book, and your confirmation shows where the car will pull up. For an apartment rather than a hotel, give the house number and any letters after it, as used on the canal houses.

From Amsterdam Back to Schiphol
Leaving Amsterdam, the useful thing to know is how long the road takes, not when to leave: 20–45 minutes to Schiphol, longer in heavy traffic. The pickup time you choose is confirmed with the reservation.
From Zuidas the lower figure is realistic; from the Canal Ring or the IJ, the city streets before the A10 account for the rest. On a weekend when Zuidasdok works close part of the A10 South or the A4, the route changes, so look at the announced closures before you pick the time.
At the airport there is one terminal but more than one departure hall, and your airline's check-in desks decide which. Name the airline in the booking and the car stops at the right one. After a cruise, the pickup can be the terminal on the IJ instead of a hotel, with the ship's arrival time in the reservation.
