Airport Transfers from Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) to Venice

One-Way Transfer
A one-way transfer covers one journey between two addresses: Marco Polo to Piazzale Roma for a hotel in Santa Croce, the terminal to a hotel in Mestre, or the Marittima cruise terminal to your flight home. For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. For a departure, the pickup time you choose is confirmed with the reservation.
Round-Trip Service
Round-Trip Service books both directions in one reservation: Marco Polo to Piazzale Roma or the cruise terminal on arrival day, and Piazzale Roma back to Marco Polo for the flight out. Through the cruise season, cars in Venice are reserved long in advance, so booking both legs together is the safer order. You choose both pickup times, and your confirmation shows them.
Hourly Service
Hourly service keeps one chauffeur and one vehicle with you for a set number of hours. When you book, you set the start at VCE, the final address and the hours you need, and you add the day's plan to the reservation so the chauffeur has it before your flight lands. It suits an arrival day with appointments, not a straight run to one hotel.

Venice Marco Polo to Venice: Route and Drive Time

Marco Polo stands on the mainland edge of the lagoon, 13 km by road from Piazzale Roma. The car runs round the lagoon towards Mestre, crosses the Ponte della Libertà, the single road link to the historic city, and ends its route at Piazzale Roma. In normal traffic the drive takes 25–35 minutes.

The distance is short; what moves the time is the traffic around Mestre at the morning and evening peaks. A hotel in Mestre, 10 km from the terminal, comes before the bridge. The Tronchetto car park and the cruise terminal lie just beyond Piazzale Roma, on the same side of the causeway.

Journey times vary with traffic and weather. After the drive, the walk or the boat to your hotel comes on top, so think of the arrival as two legs rather than one.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at Venice Marco Polo

Marco Polo has one terminal on three levels, and every flight arrives on level 0. From the arrivals hall a covered moving walkway leads to the bus bays and to the water docks, so the road and the lagoon routes both start from the same building.

For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pickup rules. If a boat from Piazzale Roma is booked for a set time, mention it when you book the car.

A railway station is being built under the terminal. Trains are expected to start around the end of 2026, with the full layout due in 2027. With heavy bags bound for Piazzale Roma, the road stays the direct way even after it opens.

Arriving at Piazzale Roma

Venice has no roads beyond Piazzale Roma. The car sets you down there, where the causeway ends, and the rest of the way is on foot or by boat: vaporetto or water taxi. Santa Lucia station is across the Ponte della Costituzione, a few minutes on foot. For a hotel near San Marco or on the Grand Canal, a boat from Piazzale Roma is the usual next step; with several cases, a water taxi saves carrying them over the bridges.

Two other drop-off points serve different plans. The Tronchetto car park is linked to Piazzale Roma by the People Mover, and the cruise terminal at the Marittima is reached by road over the same causeway. Larger ships berth at Marghera or Fusina instead, so check the terminal in your cruise documents.

Give the exact address when you book, and your confirmation shows where the car will pull up. Inside the old city, that point is Piazzale Roma or Tronchetto.

From Venice Back to Venice Marco Polo

Leaving Venice, the useful thing to know is how long the road takes, not when to leave: 25–35 minutes from the causeway end to the airport, longer in heavy traffic. The pickup time you choose is confirmed with the reservation.

The car collects you at Piazzale Roma or Tronchetto, not at the hotel door, so the boat or the walk from the hotel comes before the drive. Choose a pickup time that leaves room for it, and for the vaporetto timetable if you rely on one.

Every airline at Marco Polo uses the one terminal, so the airport end of the trip needs no extra detail. After a cruise the pickup can be set at the cruise terminal instead, and the car goes straight from the ship to the airport.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before booking your airport transfer with Bookinglane.

How long is the transfer from Venice Marco Polo Airport to Venice?

The drive is 13 km and usually takes 25–35 minutes, ending at Piazzale Roma, beyond which no car goes. From there you go on to the hotel on foot or by boat, so allow extra time for that leg.

Can the car take me to my hotel in the historic centre?

No car can. Every road route ends at Piazzale Roma or at the Tronchetto car park. Send the hotel address with your booking, and we confirm which of the two suits it; from there, a vaporetto or a water taxi covers the last part.

Where do I meet my chauffeur at Marco Polo?

Marco Polo has one terminal, and all flights arrive on level 0. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time.

Should I take a water taxi from the airport instead?

Water taxis leave from the airport's own docks, at the end of a covered moving walkway from arrivals. A car is the practical choice for a hotel in Mestre, for the cruise terminal, or for a party with a lot of luggage heading to Piazzale Roma.

Can you take us from Marco Polo to our cruise ship?

Yes. The Marittima cruise terminal is reached by road over the Ponte della Libertà, and larger ships berth at Marghera or Fusina. Add the ship and its berth, as printed on your cruise papers, to the booking, and we will tell you where the car can set you down.

Is there a train from Marco Polo Airport to Venice?

Not yet. A station is being built under the terminal, with first trains expected around the end of 2026 and the full layout in 2027. For now the road is the direct link: 13 km to Piazzale Roma, 25–35 minutes.
