Pisa Airport to Siena: Route and Drive Time
Siena is 119 km from Pisa Airport. The car takes the Fi-Pi-Li east along the Arno, turns south onto the SR429 through the Val d'Elsa, and joins the RA 3, the Florence–Siena road, for the last part into Siena. The drive usually takes 2 hours to 2 hours 40 minutes.
The route uses three different roads, and they do not run at the same speed. The Fi-Pi-Li near Empoli and the two-lane stretches of the SR429 set most of the time; the RA 3 is quicker. A hotel just outside the walls, near the RA 3 exit, comes first; an estate south of Siena adds the extra kilometres beyond the town.
Journey times vary with traffic and weather. Add the full address next to the flight number, above all for a country house, where the right turn off the main road depends on the property.
Meeting Your Chauffeur at Pisa Airport
Arriving at Pisa for Siena, you come out into the one arrivals area of the airport's single terminal. After baggage reclaim the car leaves directly for the Fi-Pi-Li, so the two-hour drive starts within minutes of landing.
For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pickup rules. On a route this long that matters most for evening flights: a late landing still ends with the drive to Siena, not a night looking for a train connection.
The terminal is in the middle of works. Arrivals are due to move to a new building, completed in summer 2026, once ENAC testing is done, and the work goes on to around mid-2027.
Arriving at Your Hotel in Siena
From Pisa the car comes into Siena from the north, on the RA 3. The whole walled centre is a ZTL with camera gates, so for a hotel near Piazza del Campo or in the contrade send the full address with the booking and we will tell you the nearest point a car can reach.
Many visitors from Pisa stay outside the town instead: in the Val d'Elsa, which the route crosses on the way, or in the hills south of Siena. For those addresses the car turns off before the town or goes around it, and the walled centre plays no part.
Give the exact address when you book, and your confirmation shows where the car will pull up. On Palio race days in July and August the centre is closed to traffic; if you arrive on one of them, say so when you book.
From Siena Back to Pisa Airport
Leaving Siena, the useful thing to know is how long the road takes, not when to leave: 2 hours to 2 hours 40 minutes to Pisa Airport, longer in heavy traffic. The pickup time you choose is confirmed with the reservation.
For a morning flight from Pisa, that means a very early start from Siena. Many travellers prefer a last night in Pisa instead: Siena to a Pisa hotel the evening before, then 4 km to the terminal in the morning, booked as two transfers.
If you have a choice of airports for the flight home, Florence Airport is 83 km from Siena, 1 hour 25 minutes to 1 hour 55 minutes. Pisa remains the better option when it has the flight, or when the last days of the trip are on the coast.
