Pisa Airport to Lucca: Route and Drive Time
Lucca is 35 km from Pisa Airport by road. The car takes the A12 north for a short stretch, then turns east onto the A11, the Florence–coast motorway, and leaves it at Lucca. The drive usually takes 40–55 minutes.
On the motorway the traffic is rarely the problem. The time is set at the two ends: the junctions around Pisa at the evening peak, and the road around the walls once you reach Lucca, where most traffic into the town is funnelled. An address outside the walls, on the approach from the motorway, is quicker to reach than a hotel on the far side of the old town.
Journey times vary with traffic and weather. Put the hotel's name and street next to your flight number: in Lucca the useful question is whether the address is inside or outside the walls.
Meeting Your Chauffeur at Pisa Airport
At Pisa all passengers arrive through one terminal and one arrivals area; there is no second building to look for. The PisaMover and the car parks are just outside, but a car to Lucca avoids the change of train at Pisa Centrale.

During Lucca Comics & Games the roads around the walls fill with visitors, and a pickup from inside the old town needs the same care as the drop-off. Choose a pickup time that allows for the festival days, and name your airline when you book.
A stay in Lucca often ends somewhere else. If your last nights are on the coast, Viareggio is 29 km from Lucca and Forte dei Marmi 36 km; from either, a departure transfer goes straight to the terminal at Pisa without passing through Lucca again.
