Airport Transfers from Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) to Milan

One-Way Transfer
A one-way transfer covers one journey between two addresses: Terminal 1 to a hotel near Milano Centrale, Terminal 2 to an apartment in Brera, or your hotel in CityLife to Malpensa for an evening long-haul flight. For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. For a departure, the pickup time you choose is confirmed with the reservation.
Round-Trip Service
Round-Trip Service books both directions in one reservation: the landing at Malpensa with the drive to your Milan hotel, and the departure day with the drive to the correct terminal. In April, when Salone del Mobile fills the Rho halls, fix the hotel-to-airport leg together with the arrival, not in the middle of the fair week. You choose both pickup times, and your confirmation shows them.
Hourly Service
Hourly service keeps one chauffeur and one vehicle with you for a set number of hours. When you book, you set the start at MXP, the final address and the hours you need, and you add the day's plan to the reservation so the chauffeur has it before your flight lands. It suits an arrival day with appointments, not a straight run to one hotel.

Malpensa to Milan: Route and Drive Time

Malpensa lies 53 km north-west of central Milan, in the province of Varese. The car leaves the airport on the SS336, joins the A8 near Busto Arsizio and follows it towards the city, entering Milan from the north-west. In normal traffic the run takes 50 minutes to 1 hour 10 minutes.

The A8 carries commuters from the Varese area, so the weekday morning inbound and the evening outbound are the slow hours. Fiera Milano in Rho sits near the Milan end of the motorway, about 40 km from the airport, before the city begins. Addresses in the west of Milan, around CityLife and San Siro, come sooner than the Duomo area or anything east of Milano Centrale.

Journey times vary with traffic and weather. Put the full street address and the name of the hotel with your flight number, because the arrival side of Milan changes the last twenty minutes.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at Malpensa

Malpensa has two terminals, about 4 km apart, each with its own arrivals hall and connected by an internal bus. Terminal 1 takes most airlines and all long-haul flights; Terminal 2 is used by easyJet. Check your ticket to see which terminal you land at.

For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pickup rules. After an overnight flight from New York or Asia, passport control and baggage can take a while, and the booking follows the landing rather than the timetable.

Terminal 1 is being extended on the side used by non-Schengen flights, with works expected to continue into 2028. Parts of the building are screened off and some internal routes have changed, but the arrivals halls remain in use.

Arriving at Your Address in Milan

Area C covers the ring of the Cerchia dei Bastioni: an access zone with camera gates around the Duomo, active on working days. Around it, Area B covers most of the city as a low-emission zone. Many hotels near the Duomo, Brera and the Quadrilatero fall inside Area C; hotels near Milano Centrale, Porta Garibaldi and CityLife are outside it.

For fair and congress traffic, Milan has two poles. Fiera Milano in Rho comes before the city on the way in from Malpensa, and the Allianz MiCo congress centre is in CityLife, on the western side. A stand-builder or exhibitor staying near Rho need not enter Milan at all.

Give the exact address when you book, and your confirmation shows where the car will pull up. The same holds for the pickup on the day of your return flight.

From Milan Back to Malpensa

Leaving Milan, the useful thing to know is how long the road takes, not when to leave: 50 minutes to 1 hour 10 minutes to Malpensa, longer in heavy traffic. The pickup time you choose is confirmed with the reservation.

Name the terminal when you book. Terminal 1 serves the long-haul carriers and most other airlines, Terminal 2 is the easyJet terminal, and the two are 4 km apart, so the car goes straight to the right one.

If the last day includes a closing session at the Rho fair, the fairground is on the way out: a hotel checkout, the halls and the airport can run in the same direction. Book the two legs, hotel to fair and fair to airport, as separate transfers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before booking your airport transfer with Bookinglane.

How long does the drive from Malpensa to central Milan take?

Malpensa is 53 km from the centre. The route follows the SS336 and the A8 motorway, taking 50 minutes to 1 hour 10 minutes in normal conditions, more on weekday mornings when commuter traffic from Varese heads into Milan.

Which Malpensa terminal will I arrive at?

Terminal 1 handles long-haul flights and most airlines; Terminal 2 is used by easyJet. The two are about 4 km apart, each with its own arrivals hall, so check your ticket. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet at that terminal.

My hotel is inside Area C. Can the car reach it?

Area C is the camera-controlled zone inside the Cerchia dei Bastioni, in force on working days. Put the hotel's street address in the booking, and we confirm whether the car can reach the entrance or where the nearest drop-off point is.

Can I go from Malpensa straight to Fiera Milano in Rho?

Yes. Rho is on the way into Milan, about 40 km from the airport on the A8, so give the fair entrance as your destination. To go on to the hotel afterwards, book that leg as a separate transfer.

Is Malpensa or Linate better for a stay in Milan?

From the Duomo, Malpensa is 53 km away and Linate only 7 km. Most long-haul flights land at Malpensa, so the choice usually follows your ticket. For a stay near the Rho fairground, Malpensa is the closer airport.

Is Malpensa affected by works in 2026 and 2027?

Terminal 1 is being extended on its non-Schengen side, with completion expected in 2028. Some areas are screened off and internal routes have changed, but the arrivals halls stay open. The spring 2026 runway maintenance has finished.
