Malpensa to Como: Route and Drive Time
Como is 52 km from Malpensa by road, and the route never goes through Milan. From the terminal the SS336 leads to the A36, which crosses the plain north of Milan; the A9 then takes the car for the last stretch into Como. The drive usually takes 50 minutes to 1 hour 10 minutes.
The motorways move well outside the rush hours; what adds time is the approach to the lake. The town sits at the southern end of Lake Como, and the road into the centre is shared with local traffic. For a hotel further up the shore, the lake road continues beyond the town, and every kilometre there is slower than on the A9.
Journey times vary with traffic and weather. Give the full address with your flight number: a villa in Cernobbio and a hotel on the Como waterfront are close on the map but reached by different streets.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at Malpensa
Before you book, look at which Malpensa terminal your airline uses. easyJet, which many UK travellers fly to the lakes with, lands at Terminal 2; almost every other airline, and every long-haul flight, at Terminal 1. The two buildings are 4 km from each other, so give the terminal on your ticket when you book, and the car goes to that one.
For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pickup rules. For a guest who lands the evening before a private event, the car is there for that flight, not for the time printed on the ticket.
Building work to enlarge the non-Schengen area of Terminal 1 runs until about 2028, and some walkways are hoarded off. The arrivals halls of both terminals stay in use.

Arriving at Your Hotel on Lake Como
Inside its walls, Como's old town is a limited-traffic zone throughout the year, and cameras check every gate. Many lakefront hotels stand just outside the walls, along the shore towards Cernobbio or near Piazza Cavour and the ferry pier.
A lake stay often means an address beyond the town. Cernobbio and Villa Erba are 6 km along the western shore; Bellagio is 31 km by road, a slower drive on the lake road. For a villa with a private gate or a narrow access lane, send the owner's directions with the booking.
Give the exact address when you book, and your confirmation shows where the car will pull up. If the last leg to your hotel is by boat, give the pier as the drop-off instead of the hotel.

From Como Back to Malpensa
Leaving Como, the useful thing to know is how long the road takes, not when to leave: 50 minutes to 1 hour 10 minutes to Malpensa, longer in heavy traffic. The pickup time you choose is confirmed with the reservation.
From Bellagio or another village up the lake, add the lake road to Como before the motorway starts: 31 km, about 35–45 minutes from Bellagio alone. Choose the pickup time from the village, not from Como.
Name your terminal when you book, 1 or 2. They are 4 km apart, and the car goes straight to the one on your ticket. If the stay ends with a few days in Milan rather than a flight, the drop-off can be your Milan hotel, 53 km from Como.
