Florence Airport to Siena: Route and Drive Time
Siena is 83 km south of Florence Airport. The car first follows the A1 around the edge of Florence to the Firenze Impruneta junction, then takes the RA 3, the dual carriageway between Florence and Siena, for most of the distance. The drive usually takes 1 hour 25 minutes to 1 hour 55 minutes.
The A1 section near Florence is where the time is usually lost, above all at the weekday peaks. The RA 3 has two lanes each way but no hard shoulder over long stretches, so a breakdown or roadworks can slow it quickly. The last kilometres run around the outside of the walls to the gate nearest your hotel.
Journey times vary with traffic and weather. Give the hotel or farm estate with your flight number: a hotel inside the walls and a property out in the hills are reached by quite different roads.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at Florence Airport
For Siena, Florence is the nearer of the Tuscan airports, and it is compact. There is one terminal on two levels, and passengers from every flight leave through a single arrivals exit, so the meeting point needs no terminal name.
For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pickup rules. For a guest heading to a wine estate with a check-in window in the afternoon, the drive south begins from the real landing, not from the timetable.
Say what you bring. A wine trip often ends with cases of bottles to take home, and golf bags or bicycles need space as well; if the booking lists them for both directions, the vehicle chosen for the return has room for what you bought.

Arriving at Your Hotel in Siena
The whole of Siena's walled centre is a ZTL with camera gates, and on Palio days in July and August the heart of the town is closed to traffic entirely. Several hotels sit within the walls, close to Piazza del Campo; others are just outside a gate, or out among the Chianti and Crete hills.
Siena's railway station lies below the centre, about 20 minutes on foot from the old town, and escalators climb from there to Porta Camollia. If you arrive by car from the airport, the station plays no part; the transfer goes to the address you give.
Give the exact address when you book, and your confirmation shows where the car will pull up. For an estate in the country, add the farm name and access road, as rural addresses are often shared by several houses.

From Siena Back to Florence Airport
Leaving Siena, the useful thing to know is how long the road takes, not when to leave: 1 hour 25 minutes to 1 hour 55 minutes to Florence Airport, longer in heavy traffic. The pickup time you choose is confirmed with the reservation.
Northbound, the RA 3 joins the A1 south of Florence, and the approach to Peretola crosses the western edge of the city. Morning flights mean meeting that traffic at its daily peak; choose the pickup time with the range above in mind.
If the stay ends with a few nights in Florence, the transfer can finish at the hotel there instead: Florence is 76 km from Siena, 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 50 minutes by car. A last night in Chianti works in the same way.
