Airport Transfers from Florence Airport Amerigo Vespucci (FLR) to Florence

One-Way Transfer
A one-way transfer covers one journey between two addresses: the terminal to a hotel near Santa Maria Novella, the airport to the Palazzo dei Congressi, or your hotel in Oltrarno to the departure hall. For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. For a departure, the pickup time you choose is confirmed with the reservation.
Round-Trip Service
Round-Trip Service books both directions in one reservation: Peretola to your hotel when you arrive, and from the hotel to the terminal when your stay ends. In the Pitti Uomo weeks of January and June, fix your flight-day pickup when you book the arrival, not once the fair has started. You choose both pickup times, and your confirmation shows them.
Hourly Service
Hourly service keeps one chauffeur and one vehicle with you for a set number of hours. When you book, you set the start at FLR, the final address and the hours you need, and you add the day's plan to the reservation so the chauffeur has it before your flight lands. It suits an arrival day with appointments, not a straight run to one hotel.

Florence Airport to Florence: Route and Drive Time

Florence Airport lies at Peretola, on the north-western edge of the city, 10 km by road from Piazza della Signoria. The drive does not use the motorway: the car heads into town along Via Francesco Baracca, then follows the avenues past the Fortezza da Basso. In normal traffic it takes 20–25 minutes.

On a run this short, city streets set the time. The morning and evening peaks on the avenues, and the last few hundred metres to a hotel in the old centre, make most of the difference. An address near Santa Maria Novella or the fair venues comes early on the way in; a hotel in Oltrarno, across the river, sits at the far end of the route.

Journey times vary with traffic and weather. Send the hotel's name and street with your flight number, since the approach to the centre depends on it.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at Florence Airport

Florence Airport is a single two-level terminal with one way out of arrivals. There is no terminal to check before you fly: passengers of every airline leave by that one door.

For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pickup rules. For a buyer due at a showroom, or a delegate expected at a morning session, the car is tied to the real landing and not to the timetable.

The T2 tram also runs from the airport to Piazza dell'Unità, near Santa Maria Novella, in about 20 minutes; it suits light luggage and a hotel near the line. A new, longer runway has been approved, with works currently indicated from around summer 2027. For arrivals in 2026 nothing changes: the terminal and the exit stay as they are.

Arriving at Your Hotel in Florence

The historic centre is a ZTL with camera gates, divided into sectors, and some of its streets are pedestrian and closed to all traffic. The Scudo Verde, a separate low-emission zone, takes in roughly two thirds of the municipality. Hotels around the Duomo and Piazza della Signoria are inside the ZTL; the fair venues are on its edge.

For Pitti Uomo and congress guests, the simplest address is the Fortezza da Basso, with the two congress palazzi beside it. The complex is about 0.5 km from Santa Maria Novella station and lies on the road in from the airport. During the fairs the city alters traffic around the Fortezza, so the set-down point can differ from the usual one.

Give the exact address when you book, and your confirmation shows where the car will pull up. The same applies to the pickup on the day you fly out.

From Florence Back to Florence Airport

Leaving Florence, the useful thing to know is how long the road takes, not when to leave: 20–25 minutes from the historic centre to the terminal, longer in heavy traffic. The pickup time you choose is confirmed with the reservation.

With a single terminal, the drop-off needs only your flight, not a terminal name. From a hotel in Oltrarno the car has to cross the river first; from the Fortezza da Basso the run is shorter.

If the last nights of the trip are in Chianti, the airport can be the end of that journey too: Greve in Chianti is 40 km from the terminal, 40 minutes to 1 hour by car. And if your flight home leaves from Pisa or Bologna, the transfer starts at your hotel in the same way.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before booking your airport transfer with Bookinglane.

How long is the transfer from Florence Airport to the city centre?

The airport is 10 km from Piazza della Signoria, and the drive takes 20–25 minutes in normal traffic. It runs on city streets, not the motorway, so the rush hours and the last stretch to your hotel make most of the difference.

Where do I meet my chauffeur at Florence Airport?

There is one terminal, on two levels, with one way out of arrivals for all airlines. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the chauffeur is there for your real landing time.

My hotel is inside Florence's limited-traffic zone. Where will the car drop me?

Each street is a separate case. The historic centre is a ZTL with camera gates, and some streets are closed to all traffic. Add the hotel's street and number to the reservation, and we confirm whether the car can reach the entrance or where the nearest drop-off point is.

Should I fly into Florence or Pisa for a stay in Florence?

Florence, when your airline serves it: the airport is 10 km from the centre, against 84 km from Pisa Airport, which takes 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 50 minutes by car. Pisa has more routes, especially in summer, and a transfer from there is booked the same way.

Can the car take me straight from the airport to Pitti Uomo at the Fortezza da Basso?

Yes. Enter the Fortezza as the destination; it lies on the route in from the airport, next to the Palazzo dei Congressi. Traffic around the venue is altered during the fairs, so send the address with the booking and we will tell you how close the car can go.

Will the new runway at Florence Airport affect arrivals in 2026?

No. The new runway has been approved, but works are currently indicated from around summer 2027, and the project still faces court challenges. For now there is one terminal, one arrivals exit and the same short drive into the city.
