Airport Transfers from Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport (BLQ) to Florence

One-Way Transfer
A one-way transfer covers one journey between two addresses: BLQ to a hotel by the main station, the terminal to the Fortezza da Basso, or a Florence hotel to Bologna Airport for a flight out. For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. For a departure, the pickup time you choose is confirmed with the reservation.
Round-Trip Service
Round-Trip Service books both directions in one reservation: Bologna Airport to your Florence hotel on arrival, and back across the Apennines to BLQ for the flight home. In January and June, the Pitti Uomo months, the Fortezza da Basso fills with buyers, and fixing the return leg with the outward one is the safer plan. You choose both pickup times, and your confirmation shows them.
Hourly Service
Hourly service keeps one chauffeur and one vehicle with you for a set number of hours. When you book, you set the start at BLQ, the final address and the hours you need, and you add the day's plan to the reservation so the chauffeur has it before your flight lands. It suits an arrival day with appointments, not a straight run to one hotel.

Bologna Airport to Florence: Route and Drive Time

Florence is 103 km south of Bologna Airport. After the Bologna ring road, the car takes the A1 into the Apennines and crosses them on the Variante di Valico, the newer section of the motorway, before coming down to Florence. Allow 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 50 minutes in normal traffic.

Three things set the time: the ring road at the Bologna end at rush hour, the mountain stretch in rain, fog or snow, and the approach into Florence itself. An address near the station or the Fortezza da Basso, on the northern side of the centre, comes before one across the Arno in Oltrarno.

Journey times vary with traffic and weather. With the flight number, give the full address in Florence, including the hotel name.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at Bologna Airport

Florence has an airport of its own, 10 km from the centre, but its runway is short, about 1,650 m. That limits the aircraft that can use it and makes it sensitive to wind and visibility. Travellers whose airline, aircraft or route does not serve Florence often land at BLQ instead, on the other side of the Apennines.

Bologna has one terminal. The arrivals exit is on the ground floor, after baggage reclaim. For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pickup rules.

During 2026 the roads in front of the terminal are placed under camera control.

Arriving at Your Address in Florence

Inside Florence's UNESCO-listed centre, a camera-watched ZTL restricts traffic, and most hotels between the Duomo and the Arno lie inside it. Hotels near the station or north of the centre are easier to reach by car.

For the fashion fairs and congresses, the venues sit on the edge of the centre: the three Firenze Fiera buildings, the Fortezza da Basso plus the two palazzi next to it, dei Congressi and degli Affari, are a short walk, roughly half a kilometre, from the main railway station and offer 65,000 m² of indoor space in 208 halls and rooms.

Give the exact address when you book, and your confirmation shows where the car will pull up. During Pitti Uomo the traffic rules around the Fortezza change, so give the fair dates with the booking.

From Florence Back to Bologna Airport

Leaving Florence, the useful thing to know is how long the road takes, not when to leave: 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 50 minutes to Bologna Airport, longer in heavy traffic. The pickup time you choose is confirmed with the reservation.

The Apennine section is where weather matters most. In winter, or on a wet evening, allow for a slower crossing when you choose the time, and remember that the Bologna ring road at the far end has its own peak.

At BLQ one terminal handles every departure, upstairs, and your flight number is all the booking needs. If your return flight leaves from Florence Airport instead, the drive from the centre is just 10 km, 20–25 minutes, and it is booked from that airport.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before booking your airport transfer with Bookinglane.

How long is the transfer from Bologna Airport to Florence?

It is 103 km on the A1 across the Apennines, and the drive usually takes 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 50 minutes. Weather on the mountain section and the Bologna ring road cause most of the variation.

Why fly into Bologna for Florence?

Florence Airport has a short runway, about 1,650 m, which limits the aircraft that can use it and leaves it sensitive to wind and visibility. If your airline or route lands at Bologna instead, a car covers the rest of the way to your Florence address.

Is Bologna or Pisa better for Florence?

By car they take about the same time: 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 50 minutes from both, 84 km from Pisa against 103 km from Bologna. The pickup is then booked at whichever of the two your ticket shows.

Can the car reach my hotel in the centre of Florence?

The historic centre is a ZTL with camera gates. Send the hotel address with your booking, and we will tell you whether the car can reach the entrance or where the nearest drop-off point is.

Can I go from Bologna Airport straight to Pitti Uomo?

Yes. Put the Fortezza da Basso as the destination and give the fair dates, since the traffic rules around it change during Pitti Uomo. We will then tell you the nearest point a car can reach on those days.

Our group lands at Bologna. Can a coach take us into central Florence?

Not into the centre itself: tour coaches set groups down at designated stops outside the historic centre, such as the one in Piazza Vittorio Veneto in use since 1 July 2025. Send the group size and hotel, and we will tell you where the coach can set the group down.
