Barcelona Airport to Tarragona: Route and Drive Time
Tarragona is 95 km south-west of Barcelona Airport. El Prat lies on the south-western edge of Barcelona, so the car heads away from the city from the first kilometre: the C-32 along the Garraf coast past Sitges, then the AP-7 motorway down to Tarragona. The drive usually takes 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 35 minutes.
Nearly all of it is motorway. The last kilometres depend on where you are going: the port and the Moll de Balears lie below the centre, the Part Alta on the hill above it.
Journey times vary with traffic and weather. With the flight number, give the hotel's street or, for a cruise, the ship's name, so the drive ends where your stay begins.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at Barcelona Airport
For a passenger joining a ship at Tarragona, two times count: the landing at El Prat and the all-aboard at the port. El Prat's T1 and T2 are different buildings roughly 4 km from each other, and Aena places each airline in one of them regardless of where the flight comes from. Take the terminal from your airline booking and add it to the reservation.
For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pickup rules. The pickup follows the plane, but the ship keeps its own timetable, and there are 95 km between the two: leave a generous margin between the scheduled landing and the time you must be on board.
Aena's current works at El Prat, an adaptation of T2 tendered in March 2026, do not close the terminal; building the wider expansion only begins in 2028.

Arriving at Your Hotel or the Cruise Port in Tarragona
Tarragona is built in two tiers. Below are the port and the modern centre around the Rambla Nova; above is the Part Alta, the old town inside the Roman walls, part of the Tarraco ensemble listed by UNESCO in 2000, where the city council has given many streets over to pedestrian priority. Since 31 December 2025 a low-emission zone applies on working days from 07:00 to 19:00 inside a ring whose edge includes the Moll de Costa and the Passeig d'Espanya; the roads on the ring itself are not restricted.
Cruise ships berth at the terminal on the Moll de Balears, and Tarragona is a Mediterranean home port for Viking's ships. Yachts use Port Tarraco on the Moll de Costa, with berths for vessels of 24 to 120 m.
Give the exact address when you book, and your confirmation shows where the car will pull up. If you are sailing, the ship's name belongs in the booking too.

From Tarragona Back to Barcelona Airport
Leaving Tarragona, the useful thing to know is how long the road takes, not when to leave: 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 35 minutes to El Prat, longer when the AP-7 is busy. The pickup time you choose is confirmed with the reservation.
After a cruise that ends at the Moll de Balears, the ship-to-airport run can be one transfer: set the pickup late enough for disembarkation and luggage, and give the ship's name. Tell us whether your airline flies from T1 or T2, since the two buildings are 4 km apart.
If your flight home leaves from Reus instead, the airport is only 13 km from Tarragona, 25–35 minutes. And a return by high-speed train starts at Camp de Tarragona, 12 km from the centre, booked in the same way as an airport run.
