Madrid-Barajas to Toledo: Route and Drive Time
Toledo is 85 km south-west of Madrid-Barajas. The car leaves the airport for the M-40, follows the orbital motorway around the south of Madrid and then takes the A-42, the Toledo motorway, for the rest of the way. The drive usually takes 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes.
The spread in that range is decided near Madrid: it is the ring roads at the Madrid end, rather than the A-42 beyond them, that set the arrival time. Madrid's municipal traffic reports put the weekday morning peak between 6 and 10, so an early landing leaves the airport into the heaviest traffic.
In Toledo the last kilometres depend on the address. The new districts and the station lie below the old city, beside or across the Tagus, and are reached first; a hotel up on the rock takes a little longer.
Journey times vary with traffic and weather. Along with the flight, we need the hotel's street, and whether it lies inside the walls.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at Madrid-Barajas
Barajas has two terminal groups, and for a transfer to Toledo it helps to know yours before you fly. One group is T1, T2 and T3 under a shared roof; the other is T4 with its satellite, T4S, some 10 km off by road. Iberia's flights use T4. Give the terminal in your booking, and the car goes to that building.
For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pickup rules. After a long-haul flight and an hour and a half still to drive, this saves the first part of the day: the car is there when you come through, not booked for a time that has already passed.
Aena's plans for Barajas, a new building for T1–T3 and an extension of T4, fall mainly in 2027–2031 and after. For 2026 and 2027 arrivals, the two groups stay as described.

Arriving at Your Hotel in Toledo
UNESCO listed Toledo's historic city in 1986. It occupies a granite outcrop that the Tagus wraps on three sides: the cathedral, the Alcázar and most of the old hotels are on top, while the railway station and the newer districts lie at its foot.
Vehicle access to the old town is controlled by bollards at its entrances, which since January 2024 open for residents' cards at any of them. Several hotels sit just outside the walls, near the Puerta de Bisagra or the Hospital de Tavera, and are reached directly by road. Walkers have the La Granja escalators, which climb from the lower town to the old city.
If you are staying near Puy du Fou España, on the south-western edge of the city, the park is about 13 km from Plaza de Zocodover by road, and the transfer can end there instead.
Give the exact address when you book, and your confirmation shows where the car will pull up.

From Toledo Back to Madrid-Barajas
Leaving Toledo, the useful thing to know is how long the road takes, not when to leave: 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes from Toledo to the airport, longer in heavy traffic. The pickup time you choose is confirmed with the reservation.
The return runs up the A-42 and around Madrid on the M-40, so a morning flight means driving towards the city at the time Madrid's own traffic is heaviest. Put the departure terminal in the booking too; with T1–T3 and T4 about 10 km apart by road, the car heads for the right one from the outset.
When a night in Madrid comes between Toledo and the flight, the car can go to that hotel instead. Central Madrid is 74 km from Toledo, 1 hour to 1 hour 25 minutes, and the following day's drive to Barajas is booked on its own.
