Saarbrücken Airport to Kaiserslautern: Route and Drive Time
Kaiserslautern lies 64 km east of the airport, and the drive takes 55 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes. From Ensheim a short stretch of country road leads to the A6, which then carries you across the Saarland border into the Palatinate almost all the way.
The motorway passes the area of Ramstein Air Base before it reaches the city, so a guest bound for the base has a shorter trip than one heading for the university. In Kaiserslautern itself the destination is often the research quarter: the RPTU, the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) and the Fraunhofer institutes ITWM and IESE.
The route follows the L108 and the A6. Journey times vary with traffic and weather. Include your flight number and the exact address, with the institute or the gate, in the booking.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at Saarbrücken Airport
SCN is a compact regional airport. Of its roughly 309,000 passengers in 2023, only about 29,000 travelled on scheduled flights and the rest on holiday routes, and the summer 2025 timetable listed Berlin alongside Palma de Mallorca and Kos. For a researcher coming from Berlin, that is the flight to look for.
For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pickup rules.
A small airport has few onward options at the kerb, and the run to Kaiserslautern is long enough that a booked car makes a real difference, especially for guests with children or a family's luggage after a move.

Arriving at Your Address in Kaiserslautern
Kaiserslautern is a university and research city. The RPTU is the only technically oriented university in Rhineland-Palatinate, and the city also has a university of applied sciences and the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems. Visitors to an institute should give its name and building, as several share the same area.
The city is also the hub of the Kaiserslautern Military Community, which includes Vogelweh and Ramstein Air Base. Installations have their own entry rules; for an address on or near a base, send the full address with the booking and we will tell you how close the car can go.
ICE and TGV trains between Paris and Frankfurt stop at the Hauptbahnhof, so a colleague arriving by rail can share the last part of your day. For any other address, the street, the house number and the name on the door are enough.

From Kaiserslautern Back to Saarbrücken Airport
For the return to SCN, plan with the drive time: 55 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes from the city, mostly on the A6 westbound. The motorway is the main link between the Palatinate and the Saarland, and its traffic at the start and end of the working day decides where in that range the trip ends up. You set the pickup time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.
The airport end is simple, as SCN is small and the car takes you straight to the terminal. On the city side, a pickup at Vogelweh or close to Ramstein is on the way to Ensheim and shortens the trip.
A traveller arriving by TGV from Paris can be collected at the Hauptbahnhof, which is the nearest station to Ramstein Air Base, for the airport run. A researcher leaving after the last session of a workshop can be collected at the institute rather than at the hotel.
