Hamburg Airport to Kiel: Route and Drive Time
Kiel is 90 km north of the airport, a drive of 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 35 minutes. The car takes the A7 north through Schleswig-Holstein and then the A215 into the city; most of the variation comes from the motorway on the Hamburg side, where traffic is heaviest.
The city wraps around the Kiel Fjord, and the side of the water you need changes the last few kilometres. The Ostseekai and the Norwegenkai are close to the Hauptbahnhof in the centre, the Schwedenkai is on the western shore as well, and the Ostuferhafen lies on the eastern shore, a longer way round by road.
Journey times vary with traffic and weather. For a ship, name the quay printed on your ticket; for the state government, give the ministry and its street address, as the offices are spread across town.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at Hamburg Airport
At HAM, flights arrive at Terminal 1 or Terminal 2, the two buildings joined by the Airport Plaza, which holds the central security check, with the S-Bahn station below; the S1 reaches the Hauptbahnhof in about 25 minutes. Give your terminal in the booking and the car goes there.
For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pickup rules.
For passengers sailing the same day, the flight time matters more than usual. A late landing moves the start of the drive, and with an hour and a half on the road to Kiel, it is worth booking a flight that leaves a clear margin before boarding or ferry check-in closes.

Arriving at Your Address in Kiel
Kiel is the capital of Schleswig-Holstein, and the harbour reaches right into the middle of town. Cruise ships berth mainly at the Ostseekai near the Hauptbahnhof, and some use the Ostuferhafen across the water. Color Line sails daily from the Norwegenkai to Oslo, about 20 hours, and Stena Line daily from the Schwedenkai to Gothenburg, about 14.5 hours.
For a ship, give the address of the cruise terminal or ferry quay as the destination; the car takes you there for your check-in time. Ships are not tracked, so the timing is planned around your boarding time, not the vessel's arrival.
Other visitors come for the state government, offices near the fjord or a hotel in the centre. Give the exact address when you book, and your confirmation shows where the car will pull up.

From Kiel Back to Hamburg Airport
For a flight, plan by the length of the journey: from central Kiel to the terminals it is 1 hour 10 minutes to 1 hour 35 minutes on a normal day, with extra time needed whenever the A7 is congested near the airport. You set the pickup time yourself, and the confirmation shows it.
After a cruise or a ferry crossing, the ride starts at the quay. The ship is not tracked, so choose a pickup time that allows for disembarkation and collecting the luggage.
Ostseekai berths are 27 and 28, the Norwegenkai cruise berth 22; add the berth from your ticket.
At the airport end, the car goes to Terminal 1 or Terminal 2, whichever is on your ticket. In June, the Kieler Woche fills the city and the roads along the fjord for nine days, so a hotel or quay near the regatta areas needs a wider margin then.
