Airport Transfers from Salzburg Airport W. A. Mozart (SZG) to Saalbach-Hinterglemm

One-Way Transfer
A one-way transfer covers one journey between two addresses: the terminal to a hotel on the main street of Saalbach, Salzburg Airport to a chalet at the head of the valley in Hinterglemm, or Vorderglemm to the airport for a Saturday flight. For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. For a departure, the pickup time you choose is confirmed with the reservation.
Round-Trip Service
Round-Trip Service books both directions in one reservation: Salzburg Airport to your chalet or hotel in the Glemmtal on arrival, and down the valley again for the flight home at the end of the week. Every departure from Saalbach and Hinterglemm uses the one road down to Maishofen, and on winter Saturdays and over Christmas and New Year that road is full, so book the return now. You choose both pickup times, and both appear in your booking confirmation.
Hourly Service
Hourly service keeps one chauffeur and one vehicle with you for a set number of hours. When you book, you set the start at SZG, the final address and the hours you need, and you add the day's plan to the reservation so the chauffeur has it before your flight lands. It suits an arrival day with appointments, not a straight run to one hotel.

Salzburg Airport to Saalbach-Hinterglemm: Route and Drive Time

Saalbach-Hinterglemm is 95 km from Salzburg Airport, about as far as people regularly drive from this terminal. The direct route heads west through a corner of Bavaria past Bad Reichenhall to Lofer, then follows the B311 through Saalfelden to Maishofen; the other goes down the A10 Tauern motorway to Bischofshofen and back north-west past Zell am See to the same junction. At Maishofen the road turns into the Glemmtal. The drive usually takes 1 hour 25 minutes to 1 hour 55 minutes.

The motorway and the main road are not where the time goes. It is the climb up the valley at the end, and on winter Saturdays the single junction at Maishofen that every car for the resort must pass.

Journey times vary with traffic and weather. The Lofer route crosses into Germany, which runs temporary checks at its internal borders until 15 March 2027, so each passenger needs the documents their nationality and itinerary require.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at Salzburg Airport

A ski club or a group of friends sharing a chalet in the Glemmtal rarely flies together. Some come from one city on a scheduled flight into Terminal 1, others from another on a Saturday charter that uses the Amadeus Terminal 2. Both buildings empty into the same arrivals hall, and there is only one exit, so the separate halves of the party come out at the same spot.

Each part of the group has its own transfer, timed to its own flight. For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pickup rules. The first car can be in the valley before the second flight has landed, and nobody waits in the hall for the rest of the party.

One hand-luggage rule applies to every car on this route: the necessary travel documents within reach, since the direct road passes through Bavaria.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at Salzburg Airport

Arriving at Your Chalet in Saalbach-Hinterglemm

Two villages make up the resort, Saalbach and Hinterglemm, some 4 km from each other in the Glemmtal and a single municipality since 1987. Saalbach comes first from the valley mouth, Hinterglemm lies further in, and Vorderglemm and Viehhofen are nearer Maishofen. The valley has no through road, so it ends beyond Hinterglemm.

For arriving cars that is convenient. Neither village has a pedestrian zone or a barrier; the valley road itself is the main street of Saalbach and continues as the village street of Hinterglemm, so most hotels are reached straight from it. Chalets on the slopes above the villages have their own lanes, so pass on any directions from the owner.

Give the exact address when you book, and your confirmation shows where the car will pull up. Name the village too: a booking that says only Saalbach-Hinterglemm can mean either end of the 4 km.

Arriving at Your Chalet in Saalbach-Hinterglemm

From Saalbach-Hinterglemm Back to Salzburg Airport

Leaving Saalbach-Hinterglemm, the useful thing to know is how long the road takes, not when to leave: 1 hour 25 minutes to 1 hour 55 minutes to Salzburg Airport, longer in heavy traffic. The pickup time you choose is confirmed with the reservation.

The whole valley leaves by the same road on a winter Saturday, down to Maishofen, and from Hinterglemm add the 4 km through Saalbach before that. No pass lies on the way out of the Glemmtal, so winter here is a matter of equipment rather than road closures. Between 1 November and 15 April Austrian law requires winter tyres whenever conditions are wintry, and buses run on them all season whatever the weather.

If your flight is a Saturday charter, check whether it departs from the Amadeus Terminal 2 with its separate ski and board check-in, and give that terminal with the booking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before booking your airport transfer with Bookinglane.

How long is the transfer from Salzburg Airport to Saalbach-Hinterglemm?

It is 95 km and usually 1 hour 25 minutes to 1 hour 55 minutes. The car goes via Lofer and Saalfelden, or the A10 and Zell am See, to Maishofen and then up the Glemmtal. Hinterglemm is about 4 km beyond Saalbach.

Our group arrives on different flights. How does that work?

Each arrival is booked as its own transfer, sized for the people and equipment on that flight. Whether a flight uses Terminal 1 or the Amadeus Terminal 2, passengers leave through the same hall and exit.

What happens if my flight to Salzburg is late?

The pickup moves with it: the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time.

Can the car drive to our hotel in Saalbach or Hinterglemm?

Neither village has a car-free zone or a barrier; both lie on the valley road itself. Include the village as well as the street address; your confirmation shows where the car will pull up.

Do we need our passports for this transfer?

Take your travel documents. The direct route from Salzburg Airport via Lofer passes Bad Reichenhall in Bavaria, and Germany runs temporary checks at its internal borders until 15 March 2027. Each passenger should carry the documents their nationality and itinerary require.

What do you need to know about Salzburg Airport in 2026–2027?

A multi-year terminal project is under way. Demolition has been clearing the site since September 2026, and the main building phase follows in 2027; when it is finished in 2033 the two terminals will be joined. For arriving passengers the hall and exit stay as they are for now.
