Airport Transfers from Graz Airport (GRZ) to Klagenfurt

One-Way Transfer
A one-way transfer covers one journey between two addresses: GRZ to a hotel near the Alter Platz, GRZ to Lakeside Park on the western edge of Klagenfurt, or a lakeside hotel in Pörtschach back to Graz Airport. For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. For a departure, the pickup time you choose is confirmed with the reservation.
Round-Trip Service
Round-Trip Service books both directions in one reservation: Graz Airport to your address in Klagenfurt or on the Wörthersee when you land, and the same road back to GRZ for the flight home. When IRONMAN Austria takes over the lake in June, and in Herbstmesse week in September, Carinthia fills up, and the return is the half worth fixing at the start. You choose both pickup times, and both appear in your booking confirmation.
Hourly Service
Hourly service keeps one chauffeur and one vehicle with you for a set number of hours. When you book, you set the start at GRZ, the final address and the hours you need, and you add the day's plan to the reservation so the chauffeur has it before your flight lands. It suits an arrival day with appointments, not a straight run to one hotel.

Graz Airport to Klagenfurt: Route and Drive Time

Klagenfurt has an airport of its own, but many flights that suit a Carinthian trip land at Graz, which is where the Lufthansa Group flies in from its Frankfurt and Munich hubs. From the terminal, Klagenfurt is 130 km away. The airport sits beside the A2 Südautobahn, so the car is on the motorway within minutes and follows it west over the Pack into Carinthia. The drive usually takes 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours 5 minutes.

Nearly all of it is motorway, and the range comes mostly from the two ends: leaving the Graz area at the busy hours, and the address in Carinthia. The centre of Klagenfurt comes first; Lakeside Park on the western edge of town, and hotels in Pörtschach and Velden, 12 and 23 km further west along the Wörthersee, add to the drive.

Journey times vary with traffic and weather. For a lake hotel, give the hotel itself as the destination, and the car runs straight there.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at Graz Airport

A traveller bound for Carinthia usually comes out at GRZ off a Frankfurt or Munich connection, with a drive of well over an hour still to go. The terminal keeps the first step short. Graz handles every flight, domestic, Schengen and non-Schengen, in one building, and there is only one arrivals hall to leave through.

For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pickup rules. When the connection lands late in the evening, the run west starts from that landing, not from the timetable.

There is also no city to cross. The airport lies directly on the A2 and the A9, south of Graz, so the car leaves the terminal area and joins the motorway towards Carinthia without going through the town.

Arriving at Your Address in Klagenfurt

Arriving on the A2 from the east, you reach Klagenfurt on its airport side, 4 km from the centre. The streets around the Alter Platz are pedestrianised, so a hotel there is a matter of where the car may stop, which the city decides.

Business on this route often means Lakeside Science & Technology Park, beside the university and the lake on the western edge of town: more than 70 companies and research institutes, with around 1,800 people working there. Say whether the meeting is at Lakeside or in town, as they are on opposite sides of the centre.

If you are staying on the Wörthersee rather than in the city, book to the hotel: Pörtschach is 12 km and Velden 23 km west of Klagenfurt along the shore. Give the exact address when you book, and your confirmation shows where the car will pull up.

From Klagenfurt Back to Graz Airport

Leaving Klagenfurt, the useful thing to know is how long the road takes, not when to leave: 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours 5 minutes to Graz Airport, longer in heavy traffic. The pickup time you choose is confirmed with the reservation.

From Velden or Pörtschach, the stretch along the lake to Klagenfurt comes before the motorway. At the far end there is nothing to decide, since Graz has a single terminal; the flight number is enough.

The rail alternative is the Koralmbahn. Since December 2025 the fastest trains link Klagenfurt and Graz in 41 minutes, but they run to Graz Hauptbahnhof, and the airport is a further leg from there. With bags for a week at the lake, the car covers the whole distance from the hotel to the terminal in one piece.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before booking your airport transfer with Bookinglane.

How long is the drive from Graz Airport to Klagenfurt?

Klagenfurt is 130 km from the terminal, west on the A2 over the Pack. The drive usually takes 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours 5 minutes; Lakeside Park and hotels in Pörtschach or Velden add the last kilometres along the lake.

Why fly into Graz for a trip to Klagenfurt?

Because of the flight. Klagenfurt Airport, 4 km from the city, connects to the Vienna hub; Lufthansa Group flights from Frankfurt and Munich land at Graz. Book the airport your ticket uses, and the transfer starts there.

What happens if my flight to Graz is late?

The pickup moves with it: the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. The drive to Klagenfurt then starts when you actually land.

Is the Koralmbahn train an alternative from Graz Airport?

For the city-to-city part, yes: the fastest trains take 41 minutes between Graz and Klagenfurt. They leave from Graz Hauptbahnhof, though, not from the airport, so the train trip starts with a transfer into Graz. The car goes from the arrivals hall to your address in one run.

Our hotel is in Velden. Should we book to Klagenfurt?

Book to the hotel. Velden is 23 km west of Klagenfurt and Pörtschach 12 km, both along the Wörthersee, and the transfer runs straight there. Give the exact address when you book, and your confirmation shows where the car will pull up.

What do you need to know about Graz Airport in 2026–2027?

The terminal side stays as it is. ÖBB is rebuilding the railway stop next to the airport, with completion due by the end of 2026, and road access and the pickup area are untouched. From 25 October 2026 there will be no Graz–Vienna flight, but connections via Frankfurt or Munich are not part of that change.
