Graz Airport to Graz: Route and Drive Time
Graz Airport is at Thalerhof, 10 km south of the centre of Graz, right beside the A9 and A2 motorways. The drive into the city usually takes 15–25 minutes, and the hour of the day explains most of that range, not the distance.
Where you are going in Graz decides the last part. The Messe and the Stadthalle in Jakomini lie south of the old town, so they come first on the way in, and the Magna Steyr plant at Thondorf is in the south of the city too. A hotel in the Altstadt, or the Hauptbahnhof on the western side of the centre, means the full run through the city streets.
Journey times vary with traffic and weather. Add the street and house number of your hotel to the booking along with the flight number.

The centre of Graz is an old town on the UNESCO World Heritage list, and its two main axes, the Herrengasse and the Hauptplatz, form a pedestrian zone that trams run through. Many hotels are inside it or just beside it. Where a car may stop there is decided by the city, not by the vehicle.
For congress guests, Messe Congress Graz in Jakomini holds up to 3,000 delegates and is reached without driving through the old town. Visitors bound for AVL, whose headquarters are in Graz, or for Magna Steyr at Thondorf can be driven directly to the plant and check in at the hotel afterwards.

From Graz Back to Graz Airport
Leaving Graz, the useful thing to know is how long the road takes, not when to leave: 15–25 minutes to Graz Airport, longer in heavy traffic. The pickup time you choose is confirmed with the reservation.
With a single terminal there is nothing to choose at the airport end; the car goes to the one departures building. The variable is the city side. In Advent the old town fills from late November until Christmas Eve, and the streets around it are slower to leave than on an ordinary weekday.
From the Messe the run is short, since Jakomini and the airport are both on the southern side of the centre. A delegate leaving straight after the closing session can book the pickup at the congress centre rather than at the hotel.
