Airport Transfers from Rome Ciampino Airport (CIA) to Rome

One-Way Transfer
A one-way transfer covers one journey between two addresses: the Ciampino terminal to a hotel near San Giovanni in Laterano, the general aviation terminal to a residence in Parioli, or your hotel near Termini back to Ciampino. For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. For a departure, the pickup time you choose is confirmed with the reservation.
Round-Trip Service
Round-Trip Service books both directions in one reservation: Ciampino to your Rome hotel when you arrive, and from that hotel back to Ciampino when you fly out. At this airport the pressure on local vehicles is highest in high summer, so a July or August stay is the one where the return should be fixed at the start. You choose both pickup times, and your confirmation shows them.
Hourly Service
Hourly service keeps one chauffeur and one vehicle with you for a set number of hours. When you book, you set the start at CIA, the final address and the hours you need, and you add the day's plan to the reservation so the chauffeur has it before your flight lands. It suits an arrival day with appointments, not a straight run to one hotel.

Ciampino to Rome: Route and Drive Time

Ciampino Airport is 16 km south-east of the centre of Rome, just outside the GRA ring road. There is no motorway on this route: the car takes the SS7, the Via Appia Nuova, and enters the city from the south-east. To the historic centre the drive usually takes 25–35 minutes.

On a run this short, the hour matters more than the distance. The Appia Nuova is an urban road for most of its length, with traffic lights and the rush hours of the south-eastern districts. Addresses around San Giovanni, the Colosseum and Termini come first on the way in. Prati, the Vatican side and the hotels north of Villa Borghese are across the centre and take longer.

Journey times vary with traffic and weather. With the flight number, add the hotel's name and street, so the booking shows which side of the centre you are heading to.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at Ciampino

Scheduled and charter flights at Ciampino all use the one passenger terminal, which has a single arrivals exit, so there is no terminal to pick when you book. Private and air-taxi flights use a separate general aviation terminal: if you arrive that way, name it in the booking and the car goes to that building instead.

For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pickup rules. On low-cost routes many passengers carry cabin bags only and are out of the hall soon after landing, which is why the pickup is tied to the real landing time.

Ciampino's own layout is not changing, but November 2026 is different. Naples Airport's closure runs from 1 to 30 November 2026, and part of its traffic moves to Rome, to Ciampino as well as to Fiumicino. If your flight was rerouted, check which of the two it lands at before you book.

Arriving at Your Address in Rome

Everything inside the GRA belongs to the Fascia Verde, a low-emission zone that works by vehicle class rather than by the clock. Inside it, the historic centre, Trastevere, San Lorenzo and Testaccio have timed ZTL zones, each with camera gates at its boundary. Whether your hotel falls inside one depends on the street, not on the name of the district.

Coming from Ciampino, hotels on the south-eastern side of the centre are the quick ones, and many residences in Parioli or Prati sit outside the timed zones altogether. If you are going on by train, Roma Termini is the main station, while some high-speed services leave from Roma Tiburtina; the ticket names the one you need.

Give the exact address when you book, and your confirmation shows where the car will pull up. For a hotel inside a timed zone, we will tell you the nearest point a car can reach.

From Rome Back to Ciampino

Leaving Rome, the useful thing to know is how long the road takes, not when to leave: 25–35 minutes from the historic centre to Ciampino, longer in heavy traffic. The pickup time you choose is confirmed with the reservation.

With one passenger terminal, the drop-off needs no terminal name. The exception is a private flight: general aviation has its own building, so say in the booking that you fly from there.

If the last night of the trip is in the Castelli Romani, the run is shorter still: Frascati is about 15 km from the airport and Castel Gandolfo about 20 km. A cruise ending at Civitavecchia, 71 km from the centre of Rome, sits on the other side of the city from Ciampino, so check the airport on your ticket before you book the transfer from the ship.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before booking your airport transfer with Bookinglane.

How long is the drive from Ciampino Airport to central Rome?

Ciampino is 16 km from the centre. The car takes the SS7, the Via Appia Nuova, and the drive usually takes 25–35 minutes; the hour of day makes most of the difference, because the whole route runs on urban roads.

How many terminals does Ciampino have?

One passenger terminal for scheduled and charter flights, with a single arrivals exit, and a separate general aviation terminal for private and air-taxi flights. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet.

I am flying privately into Ciampino. Where does the car meet me?

At the general aviation terminal, which is separate from the passenger terminal. Name it in the booking along with your flight details; for arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time.

Should I choose Ciampino or Fiumicino for a stay in Rome?

Take the airport your flight uses. Ciampino is 16 km from the centre against 28 km for Fiumicino, and it is nearer to the south-eastern districts and the Castelli Romani. It serves mainly low-cost airlines and private flights.

My hotel is in a Rome ZTL. Where will the car drop me?

That is decided street by street. The historic centre, Trastevere, San Lorenzo and Testaccio have timed zones with camera gates. Send the hotel's full address with your booking, and we will tell you whether the car can reach the entrance or where the nearest drop-off point is.

My Naples flight in November 2026 was moved to Rome. Can I book from Ciampino?

Yes, once you know the airport. Naples Airport's closure runs from 1 to 30 November 2026, and its flights move mainly to Salerno and to both Rome airports. Check whether yours lands at Ciampino or Fiumicino, then book the transfer from that one.
