Thessaloniki Airport to Thessaloniki: Route and Drive Time
The airport sits on the coast south-east of the city, 17 km from the centre by road. There are two ways in: north on the Nea Moudania road to the Eastern Inner Ring Road, or along the shore, where Georgikis Scholis Avenue continues as Vasilissis Olgas into the eastern side of the centre. Expect 25–40 minutes for the drive.
The ring road is where the time goes at present. Until the Flyover, an elevated road above it, is completed in 2027, traffic there is squeezed into two lanes with a 60 km/h limit, and night closures send it through the city instead. Kalamaria, on the airport side, is reached first; hotels near the port in Ladadika, at the western end of the centre, come last.
Journey times vary with traffic and weather. Put the hotel's name and street address in the booking with your flight number.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at Thessaloniki Airport
The terminal building at Thessaloniki grew by extension: the newer terminal was added onto the original rather than built apart from it. Whichever airline you fly, your suitcases come off one of seven belts in a single reclaim hall, and everyone leaves through the same arrivals exit.
For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pickup rules. For an exhibitor flying in on the eve of the fair, a late evening landing still ends at the hotel door, with the car tied to the real arrival.
Public transport to the airport changed in 2026. On 27 August the metro extension to Kalamaria opened, ending at Mikra, and the new X3 bus now runs between Mikra station and the terminal. The airport works as before; what changed is the link between the eastern side of the city and the terminal.

Arriving at Your Address in Thessaloniki
Most stays centre on the waterfront around Aristotelous Square, with the old warehouse quarter of Ladadika next to the port and Ano Poli, the old upper town, on the hill above. The TIF-Helexpo grounds are at 154 Egnatia Street, about a kilometre from the square, and the Ioannis Vellidis Congress Centre inside them takes up to 2,200 people in its main area. Ships' passengers use the Alexander the Great cruise terminal, on Pier 2.
During the International Fair in September, the Traffic Police close some central streets for a while and ban stopping on others, with the details published only days ahead. In fair week the nearest point to a hotel entrance can move from one day to the next.
Give the exact address when you book, and your confirmation shows where the car will pull up. In the lanes of Ano Poli and Ladadika, give the hotel name as well as the street.

From Thessaloniki Back to Thessaloniki Airport
Leaving Thessaloniki, the useful thing to know is how long the road takes, not when to leave: 25–40 minutes from the centre to the terminal, longer in heavy traffic. The pickup time you choose is confirmed with the reservation.
On the way out, the Flyover works decide more than the distance does: a night closure on the Eastern Inner Ring Road sends the car along the coast avenue instead, and that is part of the range above. Every airline departs from the one terminal building, which keeps the drop-off the same for all.
If the trip ends at sea rather than in the air, the cruise terminal on Pier 2 is in the centre, and the transfer from the ship back to the airport is booked the same way, with the terminal as the pickup address.
