Athens Airport to Athens: Route and Drive Time
Athens International Airport lies east of the city, 31 km by road from central Athens. From the terminal the car heads west on the Attiki Odos and enters the city on one of two avenues, depending on the address: Mesogeion Avenue for the centre, or Kifisias Avenue for Marousi and the northern suburbs. The drive usually takes 35 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes.
The width of that range comes from the hour, not from the motorway. The Attiki Odos usually moves; the morning and evening peaks build up on the avenues into the centre, and a holiday weekend slows the whole basin further. An address in the northern suburbs comes before the centre on the way in; a hotel in Koukaki, on the far side of the Acropolis, comes last.
Journey times vary with traffic and weather. Put the street address of the hotel in the booking next to your flight number.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at Athens Airport
Athens International Airport works from one main terminal building. Every arriving flight, Schengen or not, brings its passengers out on the same arrivals level, and the pick-up area is on that level as well, so there is no second building to look for with a trolley.
For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pickup rules. For an executive who lands before a same-day meeting in the centre, the car is tied to the real flight, not to a time written down weeks earlier.
The kerbs outside arrivals and departures are a controlled-access zone: a barrier reads each vehicle's number plate on entry, and stopping time there is short. The airport is also in a long expansion programme, with a multi-storey car park, an aircraft parking area and a VIP terminal under construction, and it stays open throughout the works.

Arriving at Your Address in Athens
Many visitors stay in or near the historic centre: Kolonaki, Plaka, Monastiraki, Psyrri or Koukaki. For much of the year the centre also lies inside the daktylios, a traffic ring that limits private-use cars during weekday daytime hours by odd and even number plates, between mid-October and the second half of July. It is lifted at weekends, on public holidays and over the summer. Syntagma and Omonia are inside the ring.
For congress guests, the Megaron conference centre is on Vasilissis Sofias Avenue, within walking distance of Syntagma, while the offices along Kifisias Avenue in Marousi lie well outside the ring.
Give the exact address when you book, and your confirmation shows where the car will pull up. If the hotel entrance is on a pedestrian lane rather than a street, say so, and we will tell you the nearest point the car can reach.

From Athens Back to Athens Airport
Leaving Athens, the useful thing to know is how long the road takes, not when to leave: 35 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes from a central hotel to the terminal, longer in heavy traffic. The pickup time you choose is confirmed with the reservation.
All departures use the same terminal, so the drop-off does not depend on your airline. The departures kerb is behind the same number-plate barrier as arrivals, and the car sets you down there.
If Athens is followed by an island, the journey may end at a port rather than the airport. Piraeus is 14 km from Syntagma, 30–40 minutes by car, and Rafina, on the east coast, is 17 km from the airport. Book that run from the hotel to the quay, and the transfer for your flight home as a separate booking later.
