Airport Transfers from Bilbao Airport (BIO) to San Sebastian

One-Way Transfer
A one-way transfer covers one journey between two addresses: the arrivals hall at Loiu to the Kursaal for an afternoon session, the terminal to a hotel beside the Parte Vieja, or your San Sebastián address back to Bilbao for a flight to London. For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. For a departure, the pickup time you choose is confirmed with the reservation.
Round-Trip Service
Round-Trip Service books both directions in one reservation: Bilbao Airport to San Sebastián when you land, and back across the Basque coast to Loiu when you fly home. With 105 km each way, the return deserves the same care as the arrival, above all in Film Festival week in September and in Semana Grande in August, when drivers in Gipuzkoa are taken well in advance. You choose both pickup times, and your confirmation shows them.
Hourly Service
Hourly service keeps one chauffeur and one vehicle with you for a set number of hours. When you book, you set the start at BIO, the final address and the hours you need, and you add the day's plan to the reservation so the chauffeur has it before your flight lands. It suits an arrival day with appointments, not a straight run to one hotel.

Bilbao Airport to San Sebastián: Route and Drive Time

San Sebastián is 105 km east of Bilbao Airport. The car leaves Loiu on the Txorierri corridor, joins the AP-8 motorway, which runs through Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa not far from the Bay of Biscay, and comes round the city on the GI-20 bypass. The drive usually takes 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes.

Motorway covers nearly all of it, so the variation sits at both ends: the Bilbao side in the rush hours, and the approach to San Sebastián on summer days, when the whole coast is busier. Once in the city, distances are short. The Parte Vieja, the Kursaal and La Concha all lie within 500 m of the centre, according to the convention bureau, so the choice of hotel changes the last few minutes rather than the drive.

Journey times vary with traffic and weather. Along with the flight, name the hotel and its street, above all for a stay in the Parte Vieja.

Bilbao Airport to San Sebastián: Route and Drive Time

Meeting Your Chauffeur at Bilbao Airport

For San Sebastián, Loiu offers the widest choice of flights, and all of them land at one building: Bilbao's single passenger terminal, three floors of iron and glass designed by Santiago Calatrava. Baggage from EU and non-EU flights is delivered in two separate reclaim halls; both open into the one arrivals exit.

For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pickup rules. Ahead of a drive of well over an hour, that matters for the evening: a delayed flight shifts the whole arrival, and the car is still at the exit when you come through, whatever time your dinner in San Sebastián is booked for.

A terminal extension is in Aena's 2027–2031 plans, with no start date announced; arrivals in 2026 and 2027 use the same hall.

Arriving at Your Address in San Sebastián

Much of central San Sebastián lies inside a low-emission zone of about 1.2 km², active at all hours, with cameras checking number plates against the DGT label register. The Parte Vieja has its own rule: without a permit, vehicles may enter only during the morning loading hours, from 07:00 to 11:30. A flight that lands at midday therefore reaches the old town after that window, and for a hotel inside it we will tell you the nearest point the car can reach.

Around the edges the picture is simpler. Hotels on La Concha, in the Centro and on the far side of the river near the Kursaal, whose auditorium of 1,806 seats hosts the Film Festival, are a few hundred metres apart. In August, during Semana Grande, the Boulevard is closed to traffic from 18:00 to 01:00, which can move an evening drop-off.

Give the exact address when you book, and your confirmation shows where the car will pull up. The same applies to the pickup for the drive back to Loiu.

From San Sebastián Back to Bilbao Airport

Leaving San Sebastián, the useful thing to know is how long the road takes, not when to leave: 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes to Bilbao Airport, longer in heavy traffic. The pickup time you choose is confirmed with the reservation.

On a summer Friday the AP-8 carries coastal traffic in both directions, and the Bilbao end of the route slows at the morning and evening peaks; choose the pickup with that in mind. At Loiu every airline shares one terminal, and your set-down there is the same for any flight.

For a flight to Madrid or Barcelona, the city's own airport at Hondarribia may serve better; the run there is 21 km, 30–40 minutes, booked separately. A stay that ends with a night in Bilbao works the same way: the city is 98 km from San Sebastián, and the airport run the next morning is a separate 10 km transfer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before booking your airport transfer with Bookinglane.

How do I get from Bilbao Airport to San Sebastián?

The simplest way is by road: 105 km east on the AP-8 motorway, usually 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes. With the flight number and hotel address on the booking, the car takes you from the arrivals exit at Loiu to your hotel.

Which airport is closest to San Sebastián?

San Sebastián Airport at Hondarribia, 21 km from the city, 30–40 minutes, with a short list of routes. Biarritz, in France, is 48 km away, and Bilbao 105 km; Bilbao has the widest choice of European flights of the three.

How do I get to San Sebastián from the UK?

Fly to Bilbao, which Aena lists with routes from Bristol, Manchester, Edinburgh, London Heathrow, Gatwick and Luton, or to Hondarribia, which has London City. From Bilbao the transfer is 105 km, 1 hour 20 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes. Routes change by season, so check your airline.

Where do I meet my chauffeur at Bilbao Airport?

At the single arrivals exit of the terminal, after the baggage hall; EU and non-EU flights have separate reclaim halls but come out at the same point. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet.

What if my flight to Bilbao lands late?

The pickup moves with it: the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. On a 105 km drive, tell your hotel in San Sebastián the new arrival time.

Can the car reach my hotel in the Parte Vieja?

The Parte Vieja is open to vehicles without a permit only from 07:00 to 11:30, for morning loading, and the centre is a camera-controlled low-emission zone. Give the full hotel address when you book, and we will tell you the nearest point the car can reach.
