Vienna Airport to Vienna: Route and Drive Time
Vienna International Airport lies at Schwechat, 18 km south-east of the city centre. The car takes the A4, the one motorway that links the airport with Vienna, and in normal traffic the drive to the first district takes 25–40 minutes.
Where in that range your drive falls is decided by the clock rather than the kilometres. The A4 fills with commuters heading into the city in the morning and out of it in the evening, so a landing at eight and a landing at eleven give two different drives on the same road. The Ring and the Innere Stadt are the nearer end of the city from the airport; Donau City, home to the UN offices and the Austria Center Vienna, lies across the Danube, and the river crossing is added to the run.
Journey times vary with traffic and weather. Give the street address together with the flight number: a hotel by the Staatsoper and a session in Donau City are different drives from the same terminal.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at Vienna Airport
Departures at Vienna are split across Terminal 1, Terminal 1A and Terminal 3, but arrivals are not. Every terminal area leads into one central arrivals hall, so whether your aircraft docked at a Schengen gate in B, C or D or at a non-Schengen gate in F or G, you walk out into the same hall. Terminal 2 has no commercial check-in, which is why some older guides describe the airport differently.
For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pickup rules. For a delegate off a long-haul flight who still has passport control to clear, the car is timed to the aircraft rather than to the printed schedule.
Vienna is building a large extension to Terminal 3, due to open in the second quarter of 2027. The building site belongs to departures and the airside zone; the central arrivals hall is not affected, and a pickup works the same way now as it will after the opening.

Arriving at Your Address in Vienna
Most arrivals in Vienna are heading for one of two areas. The first is the Innere Stadt, the first district inside the Ring, where ministries, banks and many of the city's hotels stand. Much of it is pedestrian, but Vienna's rules allow chauffeured cars to enter to set guests down and collect them at hotels where the signs permit it, so a hotel on a pedestrian street is not automatically out of reach. The second is Donau City on the far bank of the Danube: the Vienna International Centre, the UN site with a workforce of about 5,000, and the Austria Center Vienna, Austria's largest congress venue.
Some arrivals are only passing through. If the next leg is a Railjet from Wien Hauptbahnhof, south of the centre, the car can go from the terminal straight to the station forecourt.
Give the exact address when you book, and your confirmation shows where the car will pull up.

From Vienna Back to Vienna Airport
Leaving Vienna, the useful thing to know is how long the road takes, not when to leave: 25–40 minutes from the Ring to the terminal, longer in heavy traffic. The pickup time you choose is confirmed with the reservation.
The A4 is still the only motorway out to Schwechat, and in the late afternoon it carries the commuters driving home as well as the airport traffic. From Donau City the drive begins with the crossing of the Danube, so after a closing session at the Austria Center choose the pickup with that extra stretch in mind.
On the way out, the airport is less simple than on the way in. There is one arrivals hall, but check-in is spread over Terminals 1, 1A and 3. Tell us your airline when you book, and the car takes you to the right check-in area.
