Airport Transfers from Salzburg Airport W. A. Mozart (SZG) to Salzburg

One-Way Transfer
A one-way transfer covers one journey between two addresses: the terminal to a hotel on the Linzer Gasse side, the airport to the Salzburg Congress for an opening session, or your Altstadt hotel to the terminal after a Festival week. For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. For a departure, the pickup time you choose is confirmed with the reservation.
Round-Trip Service
Round-Trip Service books both directions in one reservation: SZG into the city on your arrival day, and from your Salzburg address out to the terminal for the flight home. Three periods fill the city's vehicles first: the Festival in July and August, the November fair weeks at the Messezentrum and the ski-season Saturdays, when the charters turn round. You choose both pickup times, and both appear in your booking confirmation.
Hourly Service
Hourly service keeps one chauffeur and one vehicle with you for a set number of hours. When you book, you set the start at SZG, the final address and the hours you need, and you add the day's plan to the reservation so the chauffeur has it before your flight lands. It suits an arrival day with appointments, not a straight run to one hotel.

Salzburg Airport to Salzburg: Route and Drive Time

Salzburg Airport is 5 km from the city centre, and the drive usually takes 10–20 minutes. For the old town, the car leaves the airport on the Innsbrucker Bundesstrasse, the B1, and continues along Maxglaner Hauptstrasse to the Neutor on the edge of the Altstadt. For the Messezentrum or the northern side of the city, the A1 is the other way in, since the airport has its own motorway exit.

Over 5 km the distance barely changes; the day does. A winter Saturday with its charter flights coming and going, an evening in Festival summer or the opening morning of a fair each add minutes that no map shows. Most of the time, the ten-minute end of the range is the realistic one.

Journey times vary with traffic and weather. Put the hotel or venue in the booking next to the flight number: a hotel in the Altstadt and a stand at the Messezentrum lie in different directions from the terminal.

Meeting Your Chauffeur at Salzburg Airport

Salzburg has two terminal buildings and one way out. Most flights use the main building, Terminal 1. The Amadeus Terminal 2 takes the extra winter-Saturday charters and serves as an events venue for the rest of the year. Arrivals from either building reach the same hall and the same exit, even if your flight is switched between buildings. A Festival guest on a scheduled flight in July and a ski club on a Saturday charter come out through the same door.

For arrivals, the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time. Your booking confirmation tells you where to meet, and the exact spot follows the airport's own pickup rules.

Work on new terminals is under way at SZG. Since September 2026 demolition has been clearing the site, the main construction is due to start in 2027, and by 2033 the two buildings are to become one. Until then nothing changes for an arrival: one hall, one exit, one meeting point.

Arriving at Your Hotel in Salzburg

Where the drive ends depends on which part of Salzburg you came for. The Altstadt is mostly pedestrian: bollards close most of its entrances, and some of its streets admit only residents, delivery vehicles and taxis. The city's access rules, not the vehicle, settle where a car may pull up there, so for a hotel on an old-town lane the set-down may be the nearest point a car can reach.

Across the Salzach, the Salzburg Congress stands next to the Mirabell gardens, a short walk from the hotels on the Linzer Gasse side. The Messezentrum is a different trip. Its ten halls sit beside the A1, served by a dedicated exit, roughly 5 km from the terminal, so a fair visitor can go from the arrivals hall to the stand without driving through the centre. Salzburg Hauptbahnhof, north of the centre, is a third possible drop-off if your stay continues by train.

Give the exact address when you book, and your confirmation shows where the car will pull up.

From Salzburg Back to Salzburg Airport

Leaving Salzburg, the useful thing to know is how long the road takes, not when to leave: 10–20 minutes from the centre to the terminal, longer in heavy traffic. The pickup time you choose is confirmed with the reservation.

A short road can still be slow on the wrong day. Winter Saturdays are the airport's busiest, with the ski charters landing and leaving, and on the last night of the Festival or the closing day of the November fair many guests set off at the same hour. On those dates, choose a pickup with some margin rather than the shortest time.

Skis and boot bags travel home as well: book the return for the same load as the arrival, so the vehicle that collects you has room for all of it. If your flight home leaves from Munich instead, the return is a longer drive, covered in the section below.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before booking your airport transfer with Bookinglane.

How long does it take to get from Salzburg Airport to the old town?

It is 5 km from terminal to centre, usually 10–20 minutes by car, on the B1 and Maxglaner Hauptstrasse towards the Neutor. Winter Saturdays, Festival evenings and fair days are when it takes longer.

Which terminal do I arrive at in Salzburg, and where is the meeting point?

Scheduled flights use Terminal 1; on winter Saturdays the extra charters also use the Amadeus Terminal 2. Both share one arrivals hall and one exit, so you come out at the same exit whichever building your flight uses; your booking confirmation shows the exact spot.

What happens if my flight to Salzburg is delayed?

The pickup moves with it: the chauffeur tracks your flight and plans the pickup around the real landing time.

My hotel is in the Altstadt. Can the car drive up to the door?

Not always. Bollards close most entrances to the old town, and some streets are open only to residents, deliveries and taxis. Give the exact address when you book, and your confirmation shows where the car will pull up

Should I fly into Salzburg or Munich for a stay in Salzburg?

Salzburg is 5 km from the centre, Munich 185 km, a drive of 2 hours 5 minutes to 2 hours 50 minutes. Munich is worth it for a long-haul connection that Salzburg does not have; otherwise land at SZG.

What do you need to know about Salzburg Airport in 2026–2027?

The airport is renewing its terminals: site clearance from September 2026, main construction from 2027, and one combined building by 2033. For arrivals nothing changes during the works: both terminals still share one arrivals hall and one exit.
